The story
Tatuaje means “tattoo” in Spanish — a nod to Pete Johnson’s personal style and the brand’s identity: distinctive, confident, and rooted in tradition.
Johnson’s goal from the start was not to copy Cuba, but to honour what makes classic Havana profiles so compelling: balance, depth, and a flavour journey that builds as the cigar progresses. Partnering with Don Pepín brought that vision into reality through blending expertise and meticulous production standards.
Today, Tatuaje cigars are produced under the García family’s manufacturing ecosystem, including facilities in Estelí, Nicaragua, with additional production historically associated with Miami operations. The result is a brand that has earned ongoing acclaim and a loyal following among enthusiasts who value flavour, craftsmanship, and a clear point of view.
