Three cigars chosen to showcase the mild-to-medium range of authentic Havana craftsmanship, gently increasing in strength across the set rather than all at once. Each is a true Cuban puro, wrapper, binder and filler all grown on the island.

Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 2 (4 7/8" x 50): One of the great gateway Habanos. Creamy and gentle, with cedar, toasted nuts and a delicate honeyed sweetness. Mild strength, ~45 minutes.

H. Upmann Half Corona (3 1/2" x 44): A classic Havana "intermission" format, reintroduced in 2011. Creamy coffee and toasted cedar with a touch of fruit and nuttiness, finishing with a controlled cinnamon-pepper lift. Light to medium strength, ~20 minutes, the shortest of the set.

Romeo y Julieta Short Churchill (4 7/8" x 50): The first medium-flavoured robusto to come out of Cuba, launched in 2006. Cedar and warm, reddish sweetness open the smoke, dried fruit and honey develop through the middle. Medium strength, ~45 minutes, the fullest of the set.

Recommended order: Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 2 first for the mildest, most classic introduction to Havana character, then H. Upmann Half Corona for a shorter, creamier step up, finishing with the Romeo y Julieta Short Churchill as the fullest-bodied of the three. That's the general mild-to-medium logic, proposed rather than confirmed, since it's Lisardo's call as Habanos Sommelier.

Heritage: Hoyo de Monterrey dates back to the 1800s, long associated with refined, light-strength Habanos from the Vuelta Abajo region. H. Upmann launched in 1844 and is one of Havana's most historic marques. Romeo y Julieta was officially registered in Havana in 1875 and counted Winston Churchill among its most devoted admirers, lending his name to the brand's most iconic size.
