Plasencia Alma del Cielo Celeste Robusto (4 7/8" x 52): A true Nicaraguan puro grown at 1,300 metres on the Plasencia family's Finca San Julian estate. Marzipan and honey open the smoke, nougat and orange zest lift the middle, and a precise ginger spice ties the finish together. Medium strength, around 45 minutes.

Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Robusto: A benchmark medium-to-full-bodied Dominican, sitting at the pinnacle of the Fuente portfolio. Opens with dark cedar and dried fruit, deepening into espresso and a long, warm finish.

Recommended order: Plasencia Alma del Cielo Celeste Robusto first, since its medium body and brighter fruit notes are easier to place before stepping up to the Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Robusto, the fuller and more intense of the two.

Heritage: Plasencia has grown tobacco across Nicaragua and Honduras since 1865, with this puro's filler coming from the family's Finca San Julian estate. Arturo Fuente is a multi-generational Dominican house, and the Don Carlos line was created in honour of Don Carlos Fuente Sr., representing the pinnacle of the family's craft.
